The main characters of this classics, fiction story are Santiago, Manolin. It adds nothing but frustration and delays.

This started out as a three star book because, despite the gruesome killing, the delivery was a bit flat and I thought - here comes another standard police procedural. Instead, we have a likeable guy who has returned to active duty after his female partner died. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

None of that "digging deep into his primal core" to come up with herculean strength, speed, etc. If you find wrong grammar, poor sentence construction, and misused words (insight for incite, among others) interesting rather than annoying, then this book’s for you.

Although the author has a resume as a novelist and screen writer, the book had the feel of a novice's work. I purchased “The Boatman: An Indian Love Story” out of curiosity about the way John Burbidge writes. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 20, 2020. John Burbidge has fluently written his story, revealing his love of the Indian world and his compulsive double-life of work in an international organisation by day, and passionate risk-taking after hours. Read more.

That distance is shattered though when bodies begin turning up in The Bottoms, the poverty-stricken section of town he is assigned to patrol.
The writing style is good, some people complained about ‘drug’ and ‘stained skin’, slightly irritating but if you are reading fast enough not sufficient to pause!

fast paced. This Gay coming-out story is interesting, but it's not an easy read, or at least I didn't think so. The Boatman offers the reader an engaging, educational, and also a bit startling look at life in India, that is not your typical story.

This is a brilliant read that opened my eyes to a time, place, and struggle for wholeness that left me looking forward to the next installment from Mr. Burbidge. Further, southern accents are a highly likeable feature on most everybody, English bulldogs sit atop the critter hierarchy, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a Saturday night spent catfishing at the lake. Suspense. Eventually, the fantasy must meet the reality and the protagonist must realise their own boundaries and place in the world in relation to others.

The killer is called The Boat Man and is name after Charon from Greek mythology, who carries souls across the rivers Styx into the world of the dead. Even the name of the book was interesting and was explained in the book’s story. Through it's clear prose description of being an committed member of an organization that lives out of (perhaps impossibly high) ideals by day, justaposed with the experience of a self focused expedient life by night, the memoir illustrates what it means to be closeted. Burbidge is brutally honest in his self-examination as a gay man coming out while in India decades ago. can't wait.

The six years John Burbidge spent in India as a community development worker changed him in many ways, but one stands out from all the rest.

Never felt it. In some ways I found it a terrifying book because I don't know how to deal with persons who are so determinedly self-exposing. Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2019.

Learn more about the program. i am new to Dustin's work. This book describes a complex journey of coming out and gives a harrowing and exciting account of a double life lived in India.

I likes the way the leads were slowly but steadily developed.

A recommended read.
